Gas price

Yesterday, I saw the price of gas (petrol) at 96.4¢. It was 98.4¢ during the week-end. I thought that the price has reached its lower ceiling. There was news that the US production have been reduced due to hurricanes and that the oil barrel price has set a new record ($80+). I was right to gas up Monday afternoon at 96.4¢ (full tank). So today, Tuesday, while going to work, I passed by the same gas station. The price is now 108.4¢. WTF? 12% increase overnight. With the same gas which was in their tanks yesterday. What a scam! Gasing up is an art that one have to master.

I spent $135 on an electric toothbrush

Sonicare Toothbrush Yes, I spent $135 ($120+tx) on a Philips Sonicare toothbrush which is said to be the best electric toothbrush in the world. It has been recommended by my dental hygienist at least twice. I think that I paid for the dentist’s vacations for a year (I visit too often).

The Sonicare toothbrush is supposed to make your gum healthier, reach the pockets better, remove plaque better and make your teeth whiter. The model I bought has a 2-min. timer. You’re supposed to brush your teeth in four sections and in 30-second intervals. Other models beep every 30 seconds to let you know to change sections. For me, I just look at the clock. Same result. The Oral-B electric toothbrush is nothing compared to Sonicare.

So, instead of buying the overpriced, low-bandwidth (no-3G) iPhone, you can better spend your money on the Sonicare toothbrush.

Project 3X: the ultimate geek project

Project 3X is the codename of a new project I’m starting. Very few people know about this (so far). I think it is the ultimate geek project. I am actually in the feasibility and planning phase.

Project 3X will need about 1500 man hours, electronic components, some light mechanical tools and some principles learned in Physics class, and it will be 3 times faster. Due to the amount of resources to be invested (manpower and money), I have to study all the implications and establish a modus operandi (clever word for mode of operation).

MacMini prone to radio interference. MacMini catches radio station without tuner.

I guess that the MacMini is not interference-proof. I was able to receive a local FM station on my MacMini (without an FM tuner). There’s no trick. The speaker is attached below the Dell monitor. I am unable to explain why the MacMini is not shielded enough and was able to catch the radio frequency. At first, I thought it must be an application or web page streaming the radio station. After rebooting the Macmini, the sound persists.

Here’s the proof:
