.mu woes
blog.mu will be back but it may take quite some time or some Mauritian time. Anyway, I am getting out of .mu space.
I have converted the blogs to:
blogosquare.moris.org
fadil.moris.org
ilemauriceparis.moris.org
k7.moris.org
kyusphere.moris.org
tapijo.moris.org
coding.moris.org
I am using the old moris.org domain name. Bloggers can choose to switch back to blog.mu when it’s reactivated.
Sorry for the inconvenience

Thanks Stephane!! Did they give you reasons why they deactivated the domain anyway? Very shameful!

Hi Stéphane,
What about linux.mu?

Avinash, here’s the story.
As you may know, Stéphane and I developed the original nic.mu web site to facilitate domain name registrations for the ccTLD which was until then a manual process.
Part of the deal was that we could register a number of domains for free within reason, which we did for blog.mu, linux.mu, etc. Since nic.mu is now managed using a shared registry system, the registry administrator has decided to recover these domain names.
We have contacted the .mu registry to reinstate the domains, most importantly linux.mu, freebsd.mu, and blog.mu, but have not yet heard anything back. We do not even have access to our account on register.mu (the only registrar for the ccTLD) to initiate a renewal.
To make matters worse, we could be asked to pay for arrears. We think this is a low blow and are not prepared to comply with that. We would rather drop the domains and go for cheaper alternatives.
So much for promoting .mu and putting on the forefront with sites like linux.mu and blog.mu.

[…] This rather unexpected change of address has been caused by some problems encountered with the .mu domain registrations. The people in charge are working to have them reactivated. I do hope the blog.mu domain will be back on its feet soon, as I personally prefer it to the new one. But hey, I can’t complain too much! […]

[…] Recently, the blog.mu domain has been down pulling several blogs down to the graveyard with it. Here’s the story by Eddy Young. Thanks to Stéphane Lee, appropriate measures have been taken and the blogs are now accessible with a moris.org address instead of a blog.mu one. Thus http://blogosquare.blog.mu comes to http://blogosquare.moris.org […]

Hello Stéphane, I don’t know what method you use to track my blog - whether it’s by its URL or something like that. Could you please instead use my feed address? In this way even if my blog’s URL changes again, you don’t have to change nothing at the Mauritian Tracker.
site feed : http://feeds.feedburner.com/squarerss
comment feed : http://feeds.feedburner.com/squarecomment
Thanks in advance.
I would also like to share to some tips with all those who moved due to the change of domain. Hope that would be useful to them.

I generally do not let a domain name expire. With the several dozens domains that I have, I can assure you that they are renewed in time. I may let a domain that I do not use and no longer like to expire and drop. For .mu, it is a different story. The register.mu support has gone AWOL and I have not received an answer for over a week now. I was not completely surprised though. My error was to develop a property on .mu space. I think that blog.mu will be the last property on .mu. I have still other names under the .com sun.
If you have some ideas, want to develop a website and need some advice and financing, please contact me. Thanks.
P.S The feed link has been updated.
