I just cannot more than agree.
Using a Mac is quite like over-hyping a Wayne Rooney for a World Cup i.e. good for many things but not for everything!

People don't usually buy a Mac for its hardware.
Apple does have a few things going for them, for a first their industrial design is unmatched. Nobody even comes close. Aesthetically inclined people tend to get Macs just because of their looks, that's why they can charge $150 just for a differently coloured laptop.

Its true that Macs aren't very sturdy things... but who cares, it looks good right? ;)

Second, they have an amazing placement strategy. They have deals with a HUGE number of schools, colleges and even universities in north america. Gotta hook em young.

Once hooked and fed the propaganda, you get a nation-wide mob of young (and potentially hip) apple zealots. Their targetting of art schools and the like only makes them cooler.

Third: they've got Steve Jobs. A polarizing man with incredible public speaking skills. He could probably start his own sect and have everybody do harakiri.

In the end, the products are pretty good, not the best but ok, tend to break a lot (but that's why they've got applecare), are very user friendly and they look DAMN good.

Dvorak is a high-tech comedian! You have to take it with a grain of salt.
You can develop on Linux or Windows easily.

The Pentium Mobile CPUs are very good in fact considering the heat factor and performance given. You would be buying an Intel anyway with the Macbook Pro albeit at a higher price.

I smell a hint of Dvorak in this post, but anyway...

Your post is quite right, actually. Those who buy Apple computer only for the hype are in for a huge disappointment as they expect the wrong things from the products. However, people who have used Mac OS X and liked it -- like me -- will continue to buy Apple products.

To someone who asked me why I liked Mac OS X, I had the only logical answer: it is very developer-friendly.

You've put forward interesting arguments. Speed is a factor. And the price also.

Note: i would have bought a macbook pro for the speed ..
